This residential development is a response to the need for market rate rentals in the historic district of downtown Truro. It is a Net-Zero-ready, private, market-rate housing complex that maintains the scale and character of the existing neighbourhood and demonstrates how better-than-code energy efficiency upgrades in new construction make for more profitable long term rentals.
The project’s scale was reduced to fit its context with two townhouse-style buildings. Density and unit count was balanced with parking needs, while ensuring that units are bright and comfortable. It was also important that the project could be sustainably built with wood. The project’s 20 two-bedroom units have a variety of layouts, serving the needs of Truro’s older population as well as the demand for student housing directly across the street from the NSCC campus.
